Lidded Spice Jar
In Deep Green Paint
Likely Ohio, ca. 3rd quarter, 19th century, probably by Pease. Lathe turned from maple, with green paint applied soon after its making.
Although small, precisely turned unpainted woodenware from this period is relatively common, it is only occasionally that one is found with authentic period paint.
A very nice example with incised lines of decoration and integral acorn finial, the cylinder and lid out of round from shrinkage. As expected wear to the high points from handling with just a hairline at the rim of the lid. Just 2 ¾ inches tall x 2 ¼ diameter.
